ABOUT ME

I am a retired educator, who taught primarily science and social studies (history) in the Alabama public school system for more than 25 years.

EXPERIENCE

For the past ten years, my passion has focused on navigating the rich history of the people and way of life that heaves and tows the "Roll Tide" Warrior River communities in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA.

My first book, Big Bend: Where the Tide Rolls Around Tuscaloosa documents key African Americans who helped shaped the success of Tuscaloosa prior to the University of Alabama football notoriety.

Client Reviews

It is the first time I have come across any writing that presents such an insightful look at the unfolding contributions and vicissitudes of African Americans, post trans-Atlantic Slave Voyage Trade here in the United States.
— Harold Michael Harvey, Editor/Publisher of Cascade Publishing House
I am impressed with this first ever historical masterpiece about our beginnings in Tuscaloosa. I also believe children will benefit intellectually, socially, emotionally, and more from knowing that Tuscaloosa is a community from which their ancestors of diverse ethnicities have labored to sustain.”
— Dr. Levi Harris, PH.D. Psychologist
Congratulations Mrs. Ruby Simon on the debut of your literary publication ‘Big Bend: Where The Tide Rolls Around Tuscaloosa’ . It is a story of the times and needs to be read by everyone who is from Tuscaloosa. In growing up in Tuscaloosa, we all knew people from the Big Bend community of Tuscaloosa. A lot of us never had a clue of what made the area click. Thank you for bringing back those memories to some of us and introducing the culture to a lot of us. As with the Big Bend community, we have to own our communities. I do encourage everyone to read this historical events of times that transpired and a people who transition from a rural to an industrious way of life. We have to learn to be prepared for the next phase of life. If not, we will be left behind. Let’s continue to lift each other up. FROM WHENCE WE COME.
— Ulysses Lavender, Big Bend Community Native
